Paintings
Spirit: soul, vital force, life force. I hope to communicate this in all my works, from the abstraction of “Know Your Fortune” to the more representational “Air, Earth, Fire, and Water” series. I work in acrylics, oils, oil pastel, and watercolor; in every case I hope to honor the animals—and trees, plants, rocks, water, and humans—that animate the world. In the “Spirits of the Wild” series I wanted to portray the magical quality of nature: the animals blend in with the environment; there’s color & movement & joy. But spirit is also another word for “ghost.” We must cherish, protect, and preserve these wild creatures to keep them from becoming only ghostly memories of what was. The “animals” series honors the smaller, less glamorous creatures that share our space, visit our yards, and, I think, honor us with their presence.
